Right on the slopes of the Aineck/Katschberg ski area, in the heart of Salzburg's Lungau region, winter begins right outside our hotel door: from bed to the slopes, into snow-sure skiing fun, accompanied by comfort, genuine hospitality and an alpine lifestyle. After the last turn, relaxation and enjoyment await – and a place where you'll want to stay.
In summer, our hearts beat to the rhythm of the curves. As one of the leading sports and motorbike resorts in the Alps, we are the starting point for legendary tours in six directions – Austria, Italy, Slovenia. With our BMW and HONDA motorcycle test ride centre right in the hotel, underground parking for over 100 bikes, a repair corner, tour maps and hosts who are passionate bikers themselves, we offer more than just infrastructure – we offer the knowledge that bikers really need.

But the Grizzly is more than just action. It's about arriving, recharging your batteries and feeling good. Culinary delights with a regional touch, relaxing hours in the wellness area, sunshine on the terrace, genuine conversations at the bar. Here, sport, relaxation and emotion combine to create a holiday that leaves a lasting impression.

How did Grizzly Resort come about?

It all began in 2005 with the purchase of 4,000 m² of grassland at the valley station of the Aineckbahnen cable cars in St. Margarethen. Chef Christian passed the entrepreneur's exam and the qualification exam for the hospitality industry, enabling us to establish the ChrizzlyBAR, named after Christian, in 2006 and operate it during the following winter seasons. With the opening of the umbrella bar, we gained our first experience in the restaurant business.

In July 2011, construction began on the first phase of the Grizzly Resort, and after a construction period of just under five months, the hotel opened with 38 guest rooms, a small wellness area, restaurant, underground car park and the rebuilt umbrella bar.
It was truly not an easy time for us as a family. Every day was spent learning by doing. We had no idea how to run a 4-star hotel. On top of that, we also had to take care of the farm, the guests in the holiday apartments in Unternberg and the animals on the farm. Sophie, the youngest member of the family, was just starting Year 2 at the primary school in Unternberg and also wanted our attention. With a lot of hard work and perseverance, we mastered even the most difficult times and were able to complete the second construction phase – the completion of the hotel – in 2018.
From then on, 60 beautiful hotel rooms and an expanded wellness area with a heated outdoor pool, fitness room, new reception area with hotel lobby and enlarged underground car park were available for guests.
At that time, we employed up to 45 staff during peak periods in the winter season. It became necessary to build staff accommodation. The Grizzly Home is located in St. Margarethen, about a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and has 37 rooms with a maximum occupancy of 60 staff.
In the winter of 2021, we received an offer to purchase a mountain ski lodge, the Aineckstub'n, which we could not refuse. So now we are also the proud owners of a ski lodge, the Grizzly Alm. The lodge is located directly below the Silver Jet I mountain station. We now have around 60 employees in winter and around 25 in summer who take care of our guests' well-being.

It is precisely these people, our Grizzly Team, who fill our hotel with life and love.
